Al Cohn Orchestra With Joe Newman.


Al Cohn (November 24, 1925 – February 15, 1988) was an American jazz saxophonist, arranger and composer. He came to prominence in the band of clarinetist Woody Herman.
Saxophonist, arranger and composer Al Cohn (1925-1988), a native New Yorker, became famous in the 1940s as one of the Four Brothers in Woody Herman's Second Herd in the 1940s. It was there that he met and established a lifelong musical partnership with fellow saxophonist Zoot Sims. Cohn and Sims played together regularly through the 1950s and 1960s. Cohn also performed or recorded with Joe Marsala, Buddy Rich, Artie Shaw, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Carter, Carmen McRae and Elliot Lawrence.
